Understanding Proton Therapy can be viewed from two levels. The simple and the complex. But first a little history.
I did not hear about Proton Therapy from any of the various doctors I have seen. After I had been diagnosed with cancer, and treatment in the form of external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) recommend, and the possible side effects of EBRT explained, I needed additional information, so I went to the Internet.
One of my first stops was at the Mayo Clinic in Florida. I was impressed with their program, but they were not impressed with my insurance. They rejected my application because of my insurance. However, this was not new to me. I had already learned that you don’t choose your doctors, insurance companies do. I’m not going to get into all the problems I have had with my medical insurance, suffice it to say I have a 16-page written record of my problems.
Although Mayo would not agree to treat my cancer, I did learn a few things while interacting with them. I learned about Proton therapy.
